CLASS FORMATS
All classes stay consistent and build upon the dance skills and techniques learned over the course of the dance season. Classes are geared to and taught at the level of development pertinent to the age group. Irish Soft Shoe and Irish Hard Shoe classes are 45 minutes each.
Irish Dance levels are:
* Performance Dance Classes: Irish students who have shown that they are hard-working and consistent in every way (timing, techniques, class attendance, step memory, etc...) have been invited to the Performance Level classes for the 2017 dance season.
We recommend that these classes be in addition to the Advanced or Adult level classes, since the Performance Groups will focus specifically on performance quality choreography while the regular dance classes focus on strengthening step work and technique.
The Performance Classes are by Instructor invitation only and at the Instructor's discretion.
Irish classes begin with a warm-up/stretch sequence followed by routine technique work and basic moves (such as 1,2,3's and 7's). Over the course of the dance season, students learn Irish steps both traditional and choreographed; balance work; specific Irish Step technique; how to count steps and cue to music; and how to combine moves and technique into sequences. These classes keep students on their toes!
Both Irish Soft Shoe and Hard Shoe dance are done mostly on the balls of the feet. Ghilles are the Irish soft shoes best for Irish Soft Shoe Dancing; however, alternate foot wear for soft shoe classes may be bare feet, socks, or ballet shoes. When ordering ghilles, please remember that Irish sizes usually run 2 sizes smaller than your street shoe size.
Irish hard shoes are required for the Hard Shoe classes and can be ordered on various websites. Please see the GOOD TO KNOW page for more information on both Soft and Hard Irish Dance Shoes and where to buy them.
Please contact the studio with any questions, comments, or concerns. Thank you!
